Peabody Western Little League Promotes and Supports PRF
The Peabody, Massachusetts Western Little League (PWLL) Association has generously offered their support of The Progeria Research Foundation, Inc. by providing a large collection jar at their concession stand at the Lt. Ross Park. During the baseball and softball season, the three-field park has a constant stream of activity, with all three fields in play and a tot lot full of wonderful children's slides, swings, sandboxes, etc. The concession stand is a popular site for all who go to the park, and we hope people are inspired to part with their change (and even more!) to raise money to find a cure for Progeria. If you belong to a little league, soccer league or any other sport that has a concession stand, and you want to help raise money, please contact us. Our hope is that other sports teams jump on the bandwagon and join PWLL in funding the search for a cure!Cancer Survivor wants to find a cure for Progeria
Pietro of Harvey, Louisiana is no ordinary PRF donor. For the past several months, like clockwork, he has been donating $25 per month to PRF. After a few months, we asked him, You have been a consistent donor, what is your connection to Progeria? We found out that Pietro has no personal connection to Progeria. His answer was so inspiring, we wanted to share it with all of you: He had Cancer when he was in high school, but after a year of treatments he beat it and is now healthy. "Looking back on that experience, I am so lucky the doctors were able to cure me", he says. After learning about Progeria from TV, he was saddened that there is no cure. "If they had no treatments for me, I might not be here today". Because there are so many foundations devoted to Cancer, he says, he wanted to try to make a difference by giving to the one and only Foundation devoted to finding a cure for Progeria. "Every time I see a child with Progeria, I get a feeling inside of me of hope. The children have so much life in them, it puts a smile on my face. That's why I give".Thank you, Pietro.
September 23rd, Peabody MA: International Festival
PRF will run a booth at this years' International Festival. Last year's event was very successful and we look forward to selling more goodies and talking to people about PRF in it's hometown headquarters.Convention Bureau donates proceeds from Kushner book signing
The North of Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau donated over $400, proceeds from a book signing by Board member Rabbi Harold Kushner, who was the keynote speaker at their annual meeting last August. PRF Executive Director Audrey Gordon also attended the event and distributed brochures to over 300 attendees.Benefit Concert held in Doylestown, PA
Althea from Doylestown, Pennsylvania contacted PRF in August 2001 wanting to do something to raise money for PRF. This industrious young lady put together a team of volunteers, secured the St. James Lutheran Church in Chalfont, PA to hold the concert at no charge, sold pizzas and drinks and got six bands to play! A special thanks to the bands: Redline, Dark Day Dawning, David's Burning, Inane, Onedeadthreewounded and Always the Victim. And thanks to all those who helped Althea: Scott, Geoff, Steve, Jason, Sean, Ryan and Chris.Trina gets a Winning Grade from Class and from PRF
Volunteer Trina from Ontario, Canada writes: "Thank you so much for the pamphlets on Progeria. I just wanted to let you know that I received 13.5 out of 15 on my project which will look great as one of my final marks. Also, as one of my further assignments I did an oral presentation for my class about Progeria, and explained how I was planning to do some fundraising. The next day I was swarmed by classmates asking for pamphlets and application forms to volunteer. I didn't think that my presentation would affect that many people."
