Ready for Meghan’s book choice #1? It’s ‘Little Women,’ by Louisa May Alcott. In Meghan’s words, “this is a heartwarming story about four sisters growing from childhood to womanhood. There are themes of love, hardship, and interdependency. You’ve probably heard of or seen the movie adaptations, but the book is fantastic as well!”
The House on Mango Street: Book Choice #2
Ready for Meghan’s book choice #2? It’s ‘The House on Mango Street,’ by Sandra Cisneros. In Meghan’s words, “the book is a collection of structured short stories/vignettes that tell the story of main character Esperanza entering adolescence in a poor, Hispanic section of Chicago. The vignettes can be read separately or all together.”
All the Light We Cannot See: Book Choice #3

Ready for Meghan’s book choice #3? It’s ‘All the Light We Cannot See,’ by Anthony Doerr. In Meghan’s words, “it’s a historical fiction story based in France during WWII. The two main characters are a blind girl named Marie-Laure and a German boy named Werner, whose lives eventually cross in ways you would never expect.”

Ready for Meghan’s book choice #4? It’s ‘The Astonishing Color of After,‘ by Emily X.R. Pan. In Meghan’s words, it’s “a wonderful YA fantasy. The main character, Leigh, struggles with grief and family ties after discovering her mother has committed suicide. This book is written with so much emotion, color, and magic, that it’s not hard to finish the whole book in one sitting.”

Ready for Meghan’s book choice #5? It’s ‘Wonder,’ by R.J. Palacio.

In Meghan’s words, “While this book is generally for younger readers, it’s still one of my long-term favorites. It gives heart-wrenching descriptions of what it’s like to be “different” that too many disabled people can relate to.”

Ready for Meghan’s book choice #6? It’s ‘The Hobbit,’ by J.R.R. Tolkien. In Meghan’s words, “this is easily my first go-to book when someone asks me what my favorite book is. It’s arguably the easiest of Tolkien’s books to read, and good for all ages as well, with charming and magical descriptions, dialogue, and adventure.”

Ready for Meghan’s book choice #7? It’s ‘The Power of Poppy Pendle’, by Natasha Lowe. In Meghan’s words, “this story follows 10-year old Poppy, who was unknowingly born in a French bakery and grows up wanting to be a baker, but is cursed with the gift of magic instead! Her mother forces her into the school for kids with magic, which leads to disasters for pretty much the whole town. And, there are some incredibly delicious recipes in the back of the book.”

Ready for Meghan’s book choice #8? It’s ‘The Goldfinch,’ by Donna Tart. In Meghan’s words, “this story follows a boy who accidentally stole a famous painting from the MET when he was young. While the book is on the longer side, it’s incredibly fascinating and rich with dialogue, and it is so, so well written. It was pretty much glued to my hands for four days until I finished it.”

Ready for Meghan’s book choice #9? It’s ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’, by Oscar Wilde. In Meghan’s words, “A well-known classic and the only book written and published by Wilde, this story follows Dorian Gray as he watches his mentor corrupt Dorian’s soul, which is the price he must pay for eternal youth. It’s a quicker read, but still so good.”

Ready for Meghan’s 10тис and final book recommendation? It’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, by Margaret Atwood. In Meghan’s words, “One of the latest books I finished reading, I fell in love immediately with Atwood’s incredible style of writing. This book is a commentary mainly about controlling women’s bodies, but so much more as well. You’ve probably heard of or seen the TV show (which I have not yet seen) but I encourage you to read the book as well!”
